Joanna Jedrzejczyk received some company among the list of UFC champions from Poland when Jan Blachowicz won the UFC light heavyweight title. Blachowicz’s first title defense will be an extremely tough test against middleweight kingpin Israel Adesanya. Two months ahead of the fight, Jedrzejczyk doesn’t mind accepting that she loves to watch Adesanya. However, she also feels Blachowicz will turn in as a changed fighter.
A few days back, UFC made Adesanya’s move up to light heavyweight. Despite Adesanya being the one who is moving up twenty pounds in weight, Blachowicz will be the underdog in the contest. Adesanya is a better striker than Blachowicz on paper. Regardless, Joanna Jedrzejczyk feels the contest between the two will be much more evenly poised than fans expect it to.
“Jan has more to lose, and Adesanya has nothing to lose. (Adesanya is) the champ in a different weight class — a lower class — and he’s going to fight for Jan’s belt. Jan is bigger, stronger. It’s going to be a very interesting match-up. Jan has his power behind his punches, his liver kicks, but you know Adesanya is so flexible, so unpredictable…” the former UFC strawweight champion said while talking to SCMP MMA.

The 37-year-old has had quite a career resurgence after starting his career with a 2-4 record in the UFC. However, following his loss against Thiago Santos, he has dialed in impressive performances one after the other. He executed his plan to perfection when he knocked out Dominick Reyes for the 205-pounds title. While many didn’t expect that performance from Jan, his fellow countryman could sense it coming.
“I love Adesanya. I love seeing him fighting. Jan Blachowicz, he was on fire (against Reyes). I could see that. I’ve known Jan for like 15 years, and even a few days before the fight, I called Jan and I could see the difference. It was the right time, the right place. I feel like he’s just getting stronger physically and more importantly, mentally. You can’t stop this. I can see that change in Jan.”

In the fight against Adesanya, Blachowicz will have to make the middleweight champion realize that he is battling a power deficit. Ever since Adesanya went on a five-round war with Kelvin Gastelum, he has shown a knack for not getting hit. However, if Blachowicz wants to defend his title, he’ll have to somehow find a home for the legendary Polish power.
